Highlights of the Day
We began our day editing a very wacky message full of backward letters and sneaky vowels. We continued with literacy centers and guided reading, then did some more work with the snap cube number lines in math. After recess we went to the Idea Lab to begin building the problem-solving inventions we had designed for our interview partners. I am so impressed with the students' creativity, curiosity and perseverance! In the afternoon we taught our "Ten Buddies" song to our neighbour class, and practiced showing the ten buddy numbers with our snap cubes along with our singing...which is tricky! We did some word work, playing Vowel Cross as a whole class, then had some Tech time to try out 2 new math games added to links. Since the grade ones have been so helpful, and because it is a beautifully sunny day, we finished our day with some extra play time outside!
Mail Pockets
- Did you know it is National Family Literacy Day? The students brought home "Mr. Zinger's Hat," a book gifted by TD Bank to all grade ones to promote literacy. Enjoy!
Please and Thank You / Volunteer Opportunities
- We would love to have morning reading volunteers to share books with students one-on-one, from 8:30-9:00 any day that it works for you!
- We would very much appreciate volunteers during literacy centers: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10:45 - 11:30, Wednesday 9:15 - 10:00, and Friday from 9:00 - 9:30. Thanks for considering!
- Thank you SO much to the reading and literacy center volunteers who have been joining us. The extra support has been very helpful in making things run smoothly!

Daily Challenge
Can you create a make-ten story using your favourite "ten buddy" numbers? For example, if I use 3 and 7: There were 3 students playing soccer on the field at recess, and 7 more ran over to join them. Then there were 10 kids involved in an exciting soccer game!
