This morning we edited the wacky, mixed-up vowels in our message. We tried out our half moon printing letters with a paper and pencil, and used play-doh to make and guess letter sound words for those letters. In phys ed we learned a new game, "Clean Up Your Backyard" which we played with scoops and balls, then began being word wall word detectives in our Short Vowels poem. It was a treat to practice our picture walk reading strategy with our grade 4 buddies before lunch! In the afternoon we did calendar, weather, hundreds, and how many ways, making 12 in tallies and other pictorial ways. We learned and played a new math game with the ten frame cards we made, Face Off, to help us practice subitizing and comparing numbers. We shared a silly book, "Pete's a Pizza," then began designing our own subitizing pizzas! We will turn them into pizza plates.

Words of the Week
Each week we will focus on a small set of high frequency words that we are using in our poems and morning message. Often there will be a focus of a specific phonic pattern. Feel free to practice these and look for them in your own books!

Please and Thank You
- We are seeking 4 - 5 volunteers for our upcoming field trip to Grow Calgary Urban Farm, Wednesday, September 27. Please email me if you are interested and available! (Student consent forms will be going home tomorrow, once we have confirmed Area Director approval. Field trips are a bit complicated this year with government requiring pre-approval, but will run more smoothly and further in advance come October!).
- Please send a smooth, flat(ish) rock about the size of your child's hand for an art project.
- Please gather a variety of images to collage the cover of your child's visual journals. These images can represent their favourite things, interests, memories, etc. They could be photos, magazine cut-outs, printed images, words, or drawings. Please send these images to school in a bag or envelope for Wednesday.

Daily Challenge
We are learning to print the half moon letters this week: c, a, d, g, and q. They all begin with a 'half moon' c shape. Can you teach your family? Which is your favourite to print, and why? Which is the most challenging for you?
