This morning we met our new student teacher, Mrs. Rand, who will be with us once a week for the next ten weeks. We edited the wacky /oo/ words in our morning message, then had literacy centers and guided reading. We exchanged our library books, then worked on editing and revising our journal writing with an "Author's Chair" session after recess. In math we had a chance to play our new Walk the Plank game in pairs to practice 'one less' facts. In the afternoon the students had music, then we did a science experiment to learn about how our sense of smell is connected to and affects our sense of taste. We sampled some mystery fruits and vegetables with plugged, then unplugged noses to test the difference. Tasting kohlrabi was a surprise, but many kids enjoyed it! We finished our day with our first full grade one rehearsal for the concert.
